Scientology: International Association of Scientologists

20th Anniversary

Tom Cruise - Freedom Medal of Valor

I just saw a televised version of an international event that was held in the United Kingdom, and was really impressed to see the humanitarian accomplishments of Scientologists over the past year.

For me, the highlight of the event was the presentation of a very special award Tom Cruise for his many years of dedicated work to protect Scientology and Scientologists against prejudice and bigotry in countries that do not have a tradition of religious tolerance, to make Scientology solutions broadly available, to disseminate the Scientology religion and to be a real example of what it means to be a Scientologist.

One thing he said about this when he received his award was, "That's what drives me, that I know that we have an opportunity to really help for the first time, effectively change people's lives, and I am dedicated to that. I am absolutely uncompromisingly dedicated to that."

Here are just a few examples of what Tom Cruise has done.

David Miscavige Honors L. Ron Hubbard at Yearly Scientology Event

David Miscavige

Each year Scientologists from around the world gather at the closest Scientology church on the anniversary of the birthday of Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard.

L. Ron Hubbard, whose philosophical research spanned more 55 years, is the author of Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health and the founder of the Scientology religion.

Scientology has been described as the only major world religion to emerge in the 20th Century. For as many years as I can recall, David Miscavige has been the master of ceremonies and keynote speaker of the L. Ron Hubbard birthday celebration.

Some of these speeches have been published on the Net.

David Miscavige pays tribute to L. Ron Hubbard - March 13th 1993

"Tonight we honor mankind’s greatest friend—L. Ron Hubbard.

"And it is a far broader audience than just our fellow Scientologists who salute L. Ron Hubbard on his birthday. State governors, mayors and other officials and people from all over the world acknowledge Mr. Hubbard with special proclamations, keys to their cities and declarations of “L. Ron Hubbard Day” in their towns and communities.

"And this year, once again, L. Ron Hubbard received more awards on his birthday than ever in history...." >>

David Miscavige pays tribute to L. Ron Hubbard - March 13th 1994

"I can think of no better place to celebrate L. Ron Hubbard’s birthday than here in Clearwater, Florida, where the application of his legacy is more evident than anywhere else on earth.

"In these last 20 years there certainly has been a lot of expansion. To give you an idea of just how far Scientology has come in those 20 years, consider these facts:

"The volume of Dianetics and Scientology books placed in the hands of individuals in one week today is greater than the total for the entirety of 1974.

"This year, more new countries were opened to Scientology than any previous year....">>

David Miscavige pays tribute to L. Ron Hubbard - March 13th 1995

"L. Ron Hubbard’s birthday celebration is the biggest event of the year. Scientologists the world over will be seeing tonight’s celebration at their local churches and missions.

"In fact, people from every continent on earth will be celebrating with us. And this year we have many countries joining us for the first time, all having been newly opened to Scientology since last year’s celebration.

"They include: Serbia, Lesotho, Croatia, Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Gabon, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Lithuania, St. Kitts, Slovakia, Iran, Syria, Tajikistan, St. Lucia and Lebanon....">>

L. Ron Hubbard was an accomplished professional in many fields, an artist in many senses of the word.

To read more about his different careers, there was a set of magazines published that give all the details.

Another look from a different perspective.

Here is an article by Rev. Jack Nation -- this is how it starts:

"BEGAN: In 1954. Scientology is a religious movement based on the teachings of the American writer and visionary L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard won prominence with his book "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" (1950), in which he outlined a form of therapy for curing emotional and psychosomatic illnesses and enhancing life."Another Look at Scientology

I've read all the "Ron Mags" - magazines highlighting the various careers of L. Ron Hubbard.

One of my favorites, which is contained in a web site as well, is L. Ron Hubbard, The Poet/Lyricist (Poems by L. Ron Hubbard)

And one of my favorite poems is his "Declaration of Peace" from Battlefield Earth.

You can read it here: Declaration of Peace by L. Ron Hubbard - Ron, The Poet/Lyricist

L. Ron Hubbard wrote many essays on social issues, particularly in the late 1960's.

Having grown up at that time, reading these essays is particularly revalatory for me. As I lived through those days I was swept away and quite confused by the events of the Viet Nam war, campus revolts, "flower-power". It wasn't till many years later, reading these essays, that I understood what was really behind the social upheaval of the time.

These essays are published on the Net here:

Mr. David Miscavige is Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center. Every year he gives a special commemmorative speech on the anniversary of the birthday of L. Ron Hubbard.

David Miscavige reminds us of the vital need in society for L. Ron Hubbard's solutions to life.

Never has this been more apparent that over the past three years.

The World Trade Center was a turning point in world affairs. At least from the vantage point of the United States there has been a greatly increased threat to survival and greatly reduced social liberty. Two wars later, we are no closer to peace than we were on the morning of 9/11.

To get back on topic, moving from Malaysia to the other side of the world, Mr L. Ron Hubbard set up one of the first advanced Scientology organizations up in Denmark. Europe having a huge number of Scientology parishioners, required a central location where those who had reach higher states of spiritual awareness could be ministered to.

This is a web site that gives the locations of the different Churches of Scientology in the Denmark region.
This includes AOSHEU (AOSH EU).

A very helpful article was published in the New Straits Times of Malaysia. They don't have an online version, so I'm reprinting it here.

Reducing anxiety
By Vithyaa Ramiah

You just have to take a hard look at the world we live in. There has never
been a better time for worry. We have problems everywhere, what with the
Iraqi war, potential terrorism and unstable global economy. We are seeing
more businesses closing and more home foreclosures. Add in personal
worries, work problems or marriage problems, and you get anxiety.

Some tell-tale symptoms of anxiety are: you worry about everything, you
are afraid of making mistakes, you find it hard to make decisions, you
feel nervous for no reason, you feel weak or tired, you often imagine the
worst, your body is tense, and you sleep poorly.

People jump to quick remedies, and in most cases they can at best be
only false solutions. Here are three false solutions:

1. You visit your doctor and get a prescription for some anti-anxiety
medication. After a few weeks, you feel calmer. However, you dislike
adding chemicals to your body. You don't want the side-effects. You hate
needing a drug for your happiness.

2. You visit your local bar or liquor cabinet. After a drink or two, you
feel calmer. Alcohol has the same disadvantages. You worry about your
liver or alcoholism. You wish your happiness did not come from a bottle.

3. You go to a hypnotist or buy "subliminal" tapes that give you
commands while you sleep. If you can go under, you feel calmer after the
sessions. But again, you hate not being in control of your feelings, good
or bad. Your anxiety comes back in new forms. You wonder what other
commands the hypnotist gave to you.

By making one easy change in your lifestyle, you can cut out a
significant amount of anxiety. It's simple but powerful: All you do is
stop listening to the Merchants (sellers, distributors) of Chaos
(disorder, confusion).

"It is to their (the chaos merchants ) interest to make the environment
seem as threatening as possible for only then can they profit. Look over a
newspaper. Is there anything good on the front page? Rather there is
murder and sudden death, disagreement and catastrophe. And even that, bad
as it is, is sensationalised to make it seem worse."

- L. Ron Hubbard

Anyone who profits from the suffering of others becomes a chaos merchant
if he seeks to increase his income or popularity by making the world seem
worse than it is.

Here are some recommendations to help you stop listening to the chaos

Stop reading newspapers and news magazines. Just completely cut out
the news in your life. Instead, read an interesting book.

Stop watching the news on the television. How does it help you or
anyone to know about deaths, dangers and catastrophes? Instead, watch an
upbeat show or take a walk.

Avoid people who like to pass on disturbing "news". Instead, spend
time with people who like to pass on cheerful news.

If you are not sure if the chaos merchants really have any effect on
you, do the above steps for seven to 10 days. Then go back and read the
newspapers, watch the news, and listen to disturbing people for a few
days. Notice how you feel now.

So much is evolving on the new Europe that it is good to keep informed about it, and I recommend ePolitix for staying on top of things European, at least with regard to the EC.

They also host an excellent site about
L. Ron Hubbard, which has some unique information about him.

There is a very interesting web site: L. Ron Hubbard the Philosopher: On Philosophy and Religion. One of the articles is an autobiographical piece which sheds a great deal of light on Mr. Hubbard's views and how he viewed life and why he did what he did. It is My Only Defense For Having Lived It's one of my favorite works by L. Ron Hubbard.
